As Lead Data Engineer at ilionx, you are the technical lead and strategic sparring partner for our clients and internal teams. You set the direction in the architecture, monitor the quality of the data landscape and ensure that robust, scalable solutions in the Azure cloud become reality. With your expertise you transform raw data into high-quality, well-organized datasets, using Azure SQL Database, Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks, Fabric and Snowflake, among others.
You bear ultimate responsibility for the design, realization and management of complex ELT-/ETL landscapes. You will work daily with technologies such as SQL, PySpark, Python, DBT and Matillion, integrating DevOps principles and CI/CD to ensure quality, security and re-producibility.
In your role as lead, you are the one who makes technical choices, develops and monitors best practices, and lifts the team to a higher level technically. You will coach medior and junior engineers, supervise design and architecture sessions, and act as an escalation point within data engineering projects. Because you work close to the business – from healthcare and government to finance and insurance – you translate complex business challenges into scalable and future-proof data solutions.
Besides client solutions, you help build the foundation of our products, such as the ilionx Data Platform and ZorgControl. You research and implement (generative) AI applications within data engineering and set out a clear technical vision for internal and external innovation.

– A completed HBO/WO degree
– At least 5 years of experience with Data Engineering and/or BI (more experience is welcome for the lead role)
– A forward-looking mindset with a sense of AI capabilities
– Experience with Python and Spark
– Technical knowledge of Databricks, Fabric, Snowflake, Synapse
– Excellent command of dimensional data modeling and logical modeling
– Understanding of modern data architectures such as Medallion, Lakehouse and Data Mesh
– Strong communication skills and fluent command of the Dutch language
